Common Questions and Answers
Are your ice sculptures made from molds?
Our ice sculptures are not made from molds. Many of our ice sculptures are made using our CNC machinery for engraving images, logos and text and for precision cutting of the ice sculpture pieces. We also do some hand carving and we often apply some hand techniques into each ice sculpture - ie: chisel marks into empty spaces to give some dimension.
How long does an ice sculpture last?
For indoor setups, larger ice sculptures (3ft size and up) will last roughly 6 - 8 hours. Smaller ice sculptures indoors will last roughly 3 - 5 hours. Temperature and drafts will affect how the ice sculpture melts. For outdoor setups, we can't predict how long an ice sculpture will last. It will last at least as long as the indoor setups, but only if they are placed in shaded or covered areas. If it's warm and sunny outside, the unshaded ice sculpture can disintegrate very quickly. As long as temperatures are cold, the ice sculpture may possibly last for days or weeks. We will always recommend the optimal situation for your ice sculpture setup.
Can things be frozen into the ice sculpture?
We can freeze many different items into the ice before we make your ice sculpture - flowers (we recommend using artificial flowers for freezing into the ice as real ones tend to fade during the freezing process), many fruits and vegetables, small toys and decorations and printed images (these can also be sandwiched between 2 pieces of ice after the ice sculpture has been made to ensure proper positioning). If there is something specific you would like to freeze in, just ask us and we'll let you know.
How hard is it to set up your ice sculpture?
It's very easy to set up an ice sculpture - at least the ones that we have available for pickup. We provide you with instructions and contact information in case you are unsure of what to do at the time of setting up. If an ice sculpture is fragile or a large size like a custom design or ice bar for example, then we would only offer it with delivery.
What happens to the water as the ice sculpture melts?
The smaller ice sculptures sit on special containers that hold the water in a well inside the container. When the well fills, you will need to dispose of the water. Usually it take about 5 hours for the well to fill up. For the larger ice sculptures, we provide a special drainage tray that has a hose attached to it and that hose sits inside of a bucket. When the water melts, it drains into the bucket. The bucket will need to be emptied as it fills up (check it every couple of hours).
When I pick up my ice sculpture, how long will it stay frozen?
We can package your ice sculpture into a special cooler bin, which would keep it frozen for up to 24 hours as long as you store it in a cool location (ie: unheated garage, shed, protected outdoor area like a covered patio). This bin does need to be returned to us. If you want disposable packaging, we can package the ice sculpture into a box but you will need to keep it in a chest freezer. If the temperatures are freezing outside, then you could store it in a protected area outside or in an unheated shed or garage.
Where do you deliver to?
We service Alberta, however, we are located in Calgary so depending on where the delivery location is, we will have a minimum order amount required to travel to the location. We are able to ship to Edmonton, Banff and Canmore. Delivery fees are quoted and determined on delivery location. Delivery fees for Calgary setups are usually $25 - $50 + GST.
How much notice do you need to place an order?
For ice sculptures that we have in stock, we just need one day's notice if it's a pickup. If you require delivery, then we recommend giving more notice as we may be booked up or not available to do a delivery. For catalog items that are not in stock, we require a minimum of 3 days notice but delivery may not be available depending on how booked we are or delivery location. You can always pick up your ice sculpture from our warehouse. For custom orders, we require a minimum of 2 - 3 weeks notice depending on how busy we are and how much custom work is required. This also usually would require a delivery, therefore we need more notice so that we can guarantee a delivery slot for you.
Where are you located when I wish to do a pick up?
Our warehouse is located at 3605C Bonnybrook Road SE, Calgary, AB. We just need you to call ahead before you arrive to pick up your ice sculpture so that we can make sure someone is at the warehouse and has your ice sculpture packaged for you when you arrive.
What type of payments do you accept and do you require a deposit?
We accept e-transfer payments (sent to firstname.lastname@example.org) and credit card payments (Visa, Mastercard and American Express). We require full payment prior to making your ice sculpture or if it's a stocked item, you would pay for it before you pick it up from our warehouse. We only require deposits on large orders that are over $5000.
Can I cancel an ice sculpture once I've placed an order?
Your order may be cancelled up to the point before we start to make your ice sculpture. Depending on the type of ice sculpture you have ordered, we would need a certain amount of time to work on it. It could be 2 weeks or it could be a few days. If it's a stock item, you can cancel it anytime before you pick it up. We'll provide any information you would need regarding cancellation when you place your order.
